Disc Jockeys or DJs are required to play musical recordings in parties or events. Roles of these professionals vary depending on the purpose or the setting of the music. They may work for radio stations where they play musical selections from playlists.

A DJ is someone who plays the music you hear on radio stations, internet radio stations, local bars and dance clubs, and even at wedding receptions. A disc jockeywill consider their target audience when selecting the tracks to be played and often has a set list given to them by the company they work for.

Many people often confuse DJing with producing music. DJing is playing pre-recorded music to an audience; producing is the original creation or recording of music. In other words, someone produces a techno song, and then a techno DJplays that song at a festival. Sometimes that is the same person.

A DJ set is not a concert. The artist will be playing and mixing recorded musical selections from vinyl, CD, or MP3. The tracks he or she plays may include his or her own work, but it will probably also include songs from other artists and/or labels that are musically similar.

Live-set refers to any performance of electronic music that is generated live out of a bank of equipment or a laptop rather than a DJ mix, which is played from a pre-recorded medium, such as vinyl and CD with turntables or audio files with DJsoftware such as Traktor, Serato or Virtual DJ.
