Ram Pothineni, son of Murali Pothineni, Padmasree Pothineni, and nephew of film producer Sravanthi Ravi Kishore, has predominantly worked in the Telugu film industry. He made his acting debut in commercial hit film Devadasu (2006). He won Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut - South for the same. After such a smashing break, he became a household name. His credible performances including Ready (2008 film), Maska (2009 film) (2009), Kandireega (2011), Pandaga Chesko (2015) and Nenu Sailaja (2016), Vunnadhi Okate Zindagi (2017), Hello Guru Premakosame (2018) and iSmart Shankar (2019) ..Ram Pothineni is trained to use a Nunchaku (for Devadasu), a traditional form of martial arts, made popular by the legendary erstwhile actor Bruce Lee. While learning this technique he suffered a severe hand injury but continued to shoot, which earned him sincerity and dedication. Ram Pothineni became the first-ever debutant in the Telugu film industry to have a silver jubilee opening film.
